National Partners
IOOS represents a partnership effort across 17 Federal agencies. These agencies include:
Effective and consistent collaboration among these various agencies is essential to support the planning and coordination of national IOOS development. Each agency listed above is a member of the Interagency Working Group on Ocean Observations (IWGOO), which is chaired by NOAA and vice-chaired by ONR, NSF, and NASA. The IWGOO was established by the Joint Subcommittee on Ocean Science and Technology and was charged with advising and assisting the JSOST on matters related to ocean observations.
The IWGOO is also responsible for providing funding support for Ocean.US, the National Office for Integrated and Sustained Observations. As the interagency planning office for IOOS, Ocean.US assists the IWGOO with the planning, development, implementation, and oversight of the national IOOS.
