IOOS Calendar Item - November 17 - 18, 2009

Title: Understanding the Coastal Ocean: Partnerships for a Changing World
Date: November 17-18, 2009
Location: Portsmouth, Virginia – Renaissance Hotel overlooking the Elizabeth River
Details: This is the Mid-Atlantic Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association’s (MACOORA’s) fourth annual conference. MACOORA members will receive free exhibit space, a 6” draped table, and free literature placement at the evening event at the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. Members will also enjoy free breakfasts, lunch, and participation in all sessions. Conference registration is complimentary, as are most meals and the evening event. This is an opportunity to let the ocean observing community learn about your organization and its products. Military, industry, academia, and government attendance is anticipated. This meeting will focus on critical partnerships as we navigate through a changing ocean/climate environment, a growing coastal society, and diverging research and information needs. There will be ample networking opportunities throughout both days, and during the evening event. The meeting will open with the plenary, Visions of the Changing Ocean, followed by panels. They are: State Partnerships, moderated by Robert Tudor, Deputy Executive Director of the Delaware River Basin Commission; Industry Partnerships, moderated by Jay Titlow of Weatherflow; Maritime Industry Partnerships, moderated by Ed Kelly, Executive Director of the Maritime Association of the Port of NY/NJ and Federal Partnerships. On the second day, a morning plenary, Mid-Atlantic Ocean Observations: Future Directions, will lead into two consecutive workshops: Data Management and Communications (DMAC) De-Mystified, led by Eoin Howlett of ASA Inc., and Outreach and Education, led by Fredrika Moser of Maryland Sea Grant and Jeff Yapalater of the Freeport Tuna Club.
